FAQs

Does Magna Lingua ever cancel a class?

No. Magna Lingua will never cancel a class. Teachers are not allowed to treat classes as their private lessons. If a teacher is unable to attend class for any reason, the head teacher will take his/her place or will find a suitable substitute.

If a class is canceled due to circumstances beyond the school's control (eg. public transport strike), then classes will be made up when convenient for the students.

What happens if a teacher is sick?

If teachers fall ill in the middle of the night, they call the head of faculty and pass on the information needed to teach the class. (see "student booklet")

If they need a longer leave of absence, the head of faculty will take his or her place or a suitable substitute will be found. (see "student booklet")

What is the "student booklet" for?

The student booklet is basically a notebook. Teachers have a student booklet for each group or, in the case of one-to-one classes, each student.

Information recorded in the student booklet includes:
[list]
  • Date of class
  • Difficulties during review
  • Material covered (unit, page number)
  • New vocabulary or grammar
  • Problem areas
  • Homework

When a teacher knows he or she will be substituted next time, a pre-plan for the next class is noted. This information includes:
[list]
  • What should be reviewed
  • What the homework should be
  • What should be covered in the following class

How does Magna Lingua keep track of the number of lessons taught?

We use attendance sheets that both students and teachers must sign. The date of the class and the number of hours taught are recorded. If a class is cancelled outside of the cancellation period, that is also recorded. Copies of all attendance sheets are sent to the company on a monthly basis.

Does Magna Lingua inform the company about the progress of the students?

Each month we send development sheets to the companies along with the attendance sheet and the invoice. Group development sheets show the progress of the group and individual development sheets are also given for each student.

Development sheets cover a variety of important topics such as the student's participation, material covered, and the level of each student's improvement in reading, writing, and speaking.

How does Magna Lingua bill its companies?

Companies are invoiced at the beginning of each month for the previous month's classes according to the lessons that were signed for or any late cancellations recorded on the attendance sheet.

Magna Lingua signs contracts with all of our corporate clients. We charge a flat fee regardless of the number of students in the class, although we generally recommend a maximum of 6 students per class. By allowing the company to determine the minimum and maximum number of students in a group, our prices easily meet any company's budget.

Companies normally balance their account by bank transfer within 15-45 days of receiving the invoice.

What is the Magna Lingua cancellation policy?

Students may cancel classes and re-schedule classes if the school is notified in advance. Classes cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled class are considered as late cancellations and are billed as if class had been held.

What are Teacher Assessment Sheets used for?

Students receive teacher assessment sheets periodically via e-mail or by hand. Students simply select the most accurate responses and return the message directly to the school. In this way, students inform the school of any positive or negative observations they have. These assessment sheets are kept confidential and the heads of faculty will act accordingly.

These assessments are extremely important to the success of our language school. These are how we receive firsthand feedback on our performance and the performance of our teachers.

What are some duties of the Head Teacher?

  • To train teachers
  • To give teachers advice
  • To write supplementary material
  • To inspect classes
  • To substitute teachers
  • To devise syllabi
  • To discuss classes with teachers
  • To interview new teachers
  • To develop new programs
